She has velveteen taste. Few have come to appreciate the simplicity of Michiru’s apartment, the way minimalistic decor allows one to tide in and out. The last few days are a blur to her, but the absence of her boyfriend is shocking apparent. Gone are all notions of one such Mamoru, the very same Mamoru who may have inadvertently been the catalyst for the eternal spring. In his place, Michiru reminded herself of what she was truly made of - blue blood. Generations of filthy money, poured into whatever vocation she could place her hand on. Some called this coping, Michiru called it retail therapy. Whatever it were, it served to effectively eliminate all mentions of him from her life.

Save for a copy of The Odyssey, a chapter bookmarked with a rose.

But no flower could live forever and the ocean was not a proper place it to bloom.

Tonight, Michiru was noticeably relaxed. As effortless as tranquil waters, she wafted back into the terrace carrying the last of tonight’s fare - a platter of delicate looking wagashi. This, in addition to numerous other luxuries, she pilfered from Mugen’s staff lounge. Ironic, how someone saw it fitting to gift the scientist with kinesian-themed treats. The world was truly a bizarre place.

“Wagashi, courtesy of - ” she paused to check the gift tag. It was written in rushed calligraphy. “- Ayame Morimoto from the physics department.” Michiru chuckled and set the tray down, her laughter was airy and daring. After discovering Mugen’s rather damning role in this all, she felt justified in her theft. Morimoto-sensei could afford to go without her treats. Tonight, was about them.

Yes, about them...

Michiru was taken back by how natural she felt around Haruka. As opposed to all the other men and women she let into her life; there was no need for thinly-veiled formalities, no lovesick auditions to an as of yet unassigned role. No theatrics, which Michiru was truly relieved about. It felt right, like two longtime friends shooting the breeze over thirty-year champagne.

“Honestly? I pity anyone who has to study under Yui Bido. And they say I’m high maintenance!” They chatted nonchalantly and, for once, about their day to day life. It felt refreshing to be able to get to know Haruka on a more personal level. “She is a real piece of work, that one.” And to be as mischievous as she wanted. Underneath the glitz and glam, Michiru could be just as playful and witty as any other teenager. And so could Haruka, once she felt confident in herself.

The two of them had been dining on Michiru’s balcony, overlooking a sea of kinesian pink. The sun was beginning to set now, bleeding out into the sky’s open canvas. Great hues of scarlet and orange set the mood. Between them were half finished bottles of champagne and wagashi. And although they sat across from one another, Michiru, in this bubbly state, could not help but to occasionally reach across the table.

Most had come to know Michiru for her exquisite poise. But tonight she seemed more lax than usual. Aqua tresses fell freely about her shoulders and she donned a modest yellow dress. Her eyes were lit with revelry, even as she partook in another sip of her drink and her third sweet. There was no questionin that she was enjoying herself in the blonde’s company - Haruka was every bit as sportive as she. And Michiru loved it..

“You’re quite perceptive, you know that Haruka?” she intoned, watching her companion from over the rim of her glass. “And a regular comedienne. Who would have thought!” She giggled again and raised a glass in Haruka’s favor.

As it were, the moon seemed to follow the lovers.

When it went up, they came out. Not for the shroud of darkness either - no, the very opposite. They were madly, desperately, and perhaps voraciously smitten, and the moon and it’s celestial light imbued them. Tonight, it had yet to reach its apex against a purple-on-black sky. The stars glittered marvelously from here - perhaps the only decent thing the power shortage could be attributed to. Nothing good came from the eternal spring, nothing whatsoever.

Except, perhaps, a romance created outside of destiny. Like wayward stars, Michiru and Mamoru crashed into one another. And were they better for it? Surely, this remained to be answered; yet, for now, the two were perfectly content in their roles, clinging onto the far side a heavy scale, scrapping for survival and redemption in their separate ways.

Michiru’s circumstance had not merely changed, it had been flipped on it’s head. Whereas before she had been shaded by isolation, she had very suddenly found a set of someone’s to fill those gaps in her heart. Sailor Uranus and, of course, Mamoru Chiba.Just thinking of brought a smile to her face, even when she was alone, such as she was now, carrying an uncorked bottle of Rosé to the balcony. Everything was laid it with meticulous care - a simple yet elegant table setting, complete with a silver candelabra and a vase holding the roses he gifted her that morning. Beneath silver lids was a small assortment of everyday foods, courtesy of her violation of Mugen’s staff-only entrance: a mollusk based soup, pickled vegetables, and a reasonable sized grilled mackerel to be shared between the two of them. It was a commoner’s dinner, nothing like the sort of dining Michiru indulged in before the florapocalypse. Thinking back to it, those days have been utterly gluttony compared to life as it was now.

It was a far cry from the opulence Michiru yearned for. (Old habits died hard) But tonight, she felt, was more about the act itself. Mamoru was a chivalrous and understanding man, surely he could look past it.

So why was her heart beating so quickly?

Nerves. Butterflies. A rough current in the sea. Mamoru made her feel emotions that she hadn’t reserved for another person for a long time... and tonight, if he allowed it, perhaps she could express her gratitude. In so many ways, it felt like this man had reinvigorated her with life. Had she done the same for him? Did Michiru do more than arouse his curiosity? Was she a culmination of circumstance or truly his ideal? Would he continue waking up, night after night, chasing a dream, a moon, or had she appeared in his life to absolve him from such a fate?

A knock on the door startled her more than usual. The nerves, a testament to this lively change of pace. Smoothing her hands down the front of a seafoam colored dress, Michiru made quick adjustments, as women do, and headed for the door. She wore pearls tonight and they seemed wholly fitting, clinging about the seafarer's slender neck with peculiar intention. And then, she felt quite silly for wearing them at all. But her date had arrived and there was no turning back now.

“Mamoru, good evening.” Michiru beamed, swinging door wide for her visitor. (Beyond him, across the hall, she swore she heard a stifled gasp. Nosy neighbors?) “So nice of you to visit during waking hours.” She teased, sticking her tongue out to illustrate such. Well, partially teased. They had been chasing moons since their first night’s meeting.

The ground was freshly damp from spring’s capricious and notorious showers, and the air had a heavy, sodden quality to it that almost made one nauseous. The closer one ventured into the heavily pollinated areas known as “The Poisoned Lands”, the heavy the air became. It was as though every plant was maturing or impregnated; so engorged with pollen, so slick with sap. Funny - how could one imagine that this had once been a thriving city? The area overgrown by briny vines had once been a train station; the fountains with a bevy of colorful flowers, once a work of art.

This was the radius surrounding ground zero, where the Makaiju made their residence and many a human lost their life. Even as the two women meandered closer to the heart of it, Michiru’s senses were overwhelmed with the conglomeration of vile, dejected, oppressive energy. But today, she would lend guidance to Haruka, so she suppressed these feelings - pushing them into the far recesses of her consciousness. Back, back, back. But no amount of ignorance could silence them.

“Let’s go just a bit deeper, shall we? I have a theory I want to test...” Michiru strode slightly ahead, vaguely familiar with the path carved out during her solo reconnaissance. She wore a thin black sheath dress paired with her usual medical mask - by now, both were coated in a thin layer of yellow-green pollen. But it wasn’t a matter of fashion. It was the plainest thing she owned and least likely to become a bother when she released her transformation. “If remember correctly, we shouldn’t be far from the old school district. That’ll be the perfect place to start.” Setting the scene, so to speak. Michiru threw a cautious glance over her shoulder, eyes like gemstones in the moonlight as she quipped,
“I hope you aren’t nervous.”

The two journeyed for less than an hour’s time, eventually coming to the fenced gates around what was once Juuban Municipal Junior High School . She had only seen the place fleeting, in passing and once before for a benefit concert. It may have been a beautiful building, so many moons ago, but it lay untouched and wasted now, with hints of encroaching virile plantlife. At night, the school’s courtyard held a rather ominous appearance - but instead of cowering, Michiru steered herself for the center of it. “A hand, please?” the first of such request tonight, but she simply wasn’t strong enough to pry open the long rusted over gates herself. It took some effort, but the gate did give and in a matter of moments, the women were standing alone in the large open space.

Michiru was a great deal more enthusiastic than she let on. It wasn’t as simple as removing the burden of her heavy secret - no, even Atlas had room to shrug - rather, she actually felt optimistic. Her lone efforts had gotten her nowhere. But now that Haruka was here, ready to face their shared destiny, she felt... validated in a way which she couldn’t put into words.

“Well then, Haruka. First thing’s first.” Reaching into her dress, she extracted her lip rod. Its teal-on-gold was majestic beneath this lightning. Slender fingers wrapped about it. It was thrumming with energy. The same energy that gently rocked the seas. Michiru closed her eyes, feeling</i for the moment.

“Let’s transform.”

Soooo we had one these threads before to catch all the gems that are said in the chat. I had to repost it after Budd said this in reference to Minako Aino giving love advice to Haruka Tenou, regarding Mamoru Chiba --

Michiru chewed, ruminating over unimportant things, and settled half-eaten sandwich into the crook of her leg. The sunlight felt amazing from here, spilling in between the shade of the leaves. Little pink buds weren’t so numerous here, despite the constant cycling of the spring season. There were birds chittering nearby and the sounds of laughter. Finally, an area that was not completely ruined by the pollen. For an ephemeral beat, it felt normal.

It was the weekend and rather than stay cooped up within of Mugen, Michiru decided to it would be better to lend her efforts to something useful. Outside of Mugen’s walls, the city had been reduced to an emergent status. The contrast was jarring, even six months later. Though humanity clung to the vestiges of its former glory, there were some things (and some people) that would never be the same.

There had been a devastating accident not too far from the medical facilities warranting an outpour of relief efforts. Volunteers were crowding the road now, collecting bits of wreckage and distributing water and assisting their neighbors and behaving in a way that morally-just humans should. She shuddered and repressed her opinions of the profligate school.

For now - she decided and took another bite from her sandwich - she was content in playing her role as a civilian. There were a few others seated around her, all volunteers from various walks of life. But here? They were stripped down to one in the same - dingy jeans and work boots, t-shirts with logos long faded, and those surgical masks which became a lead accessory in everyone’s wardrobe. Michiru’s hung loose around her neck while they lunched - at the top of the hour, she would resume clean-up efforts with the others.

She repositioned her legs beneath her, smoothing hands against the front of her legs and plucking away the crumbs. Toying with the idea of saving her the second half of uneaten sandwich for later - but espying the person next to her without eating all day, she simply couldn’t. Besides, there were more than enough options at her overly prepared prison of a school. “Sumimasen...” she politely interrupted with a smile and a wave. “I couldn’t help but notice you hadn’t eaten yet. I have half of an egg salad sando, if you’d like?”
